Marikina, DPS bets shine in PSL swim leg

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Marikina Aqua Bear’s Aubrey Tom and Diliman Preparatory School’s (DPS) Nigel Anthony Romey pocketed two gold medals each on the opening day of the Philippine Swimming League-Magnolia 65th Leg Series Motivational Meet being held at the DPS swimming pool in Quezon City.

Tom grabbed some spotlight as she registered a new meet record in the girls’ 7 years 25-meter butterfly, checking in at 19.57 seconds to erase the 20.16-second old mark of Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh in 2013.

Moments later, Tom continued her impressive showing by copping the gold medal in the 25m backstroke in 22.75 seconds, almost breaking the 22.05 output of Mojdeh also in 2013.

Not to be outdone was Romey who reigned supreme in the boys’ 12 years 50m backstroke (36.53) and 100m Individual Medley (1:24.13) in the two-day meet supported by DPS president Sen. Nikki Coseteng and Magnolia.
