Chief backer of Coffee Mixers grand slam bid honored

MANILA, Philippines - The man behind the success of Grand Slam champion San Mig Super Coffee in the PBA’s 39th season, will be honored with the Executive of the Year award in the 2014 PBA Press Corps Annual Awards Night set tomorrow at the Richmond Hotel in Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City.

Ramon S. Ang, president and chief operating officer of San Miguel Corp., will be feted with the award named after the late Danny Floro, legendary owner of two-time Grand Slam champion Crispa Redmanizers.

The San Mig Super Coffee Mixers, along with the San Miguel Beermen and the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, all belong under SMC’s corporate umbrella.

Ang, known in the business world by his acronym RSA, has been behind the SMC teams’ aggressive coach and player movements in the past years, and his hands-on approach in his ballclubs’ affairs has culminated with the Mixers sweeping all three conferences last season.

From behind his desk at the SMC building where he charts the course of the giant conglomerate’s vast and varied business interests, RSA also plots the direction of his PBA teams, leaving no stone unturned in the search to improve and strengthen even more their image and appeal to the PBA’s millions of fans.

RSA will be in similarly PBA distinguished company.

Three members of Grand Slam teams from different eras will personally toast the top individual honorees and personalities.

Cage greats Atoy Co and Bogs Adornado, along with Alaska team manager Dickie Bachmann will serve as guest of honor and speakers as they recount their own experience of completing a three-conference sweep during a season on this special occasion which has a theme `There Are Champions…and There are Grand Slam Champions!’
