Universiade qualifiers run show in PSL Iloilo leg

MANILA, Philippines - World University Games qualifers Rose Mary Occeno and Jason Villaruz led the Most Outstanding Swimmer (MOS) awardees in the 63rd Philippine Swimming League (PSL) Leg Series held at the Central Philippines University (CPU) swimming pool in Iloilo City.

Occeno bagged the girls’ 17-over MOS trophy while Villaruz copped the boys’ 17-over crown in the two-day meet, which served a qualifying event for the World University Games scheduled next year in Gwangju, South Korea.

Singapore Invitational Swimming Championship gold medallists Kyla Soguilon (girls’ 9-10) and Emanuel Jelankarlo Solina (boys’ 7-8) also dominated their respective age-groups.

The other MOS winners were Tricia Durado (girls’ 6-under), Narciso Maravilla (boys’ 6-under), Alexis Cabayaran (girls 7-8), Lucio Cuyong II (boys’ 9-10), Georr Briones (girls’ 11-12), John David Villaruz (boys’ 11-12), Julie Occeno (girls’ 13-14), Ezekiel Cagape (boys’ 13-14), Rowelle Agutaya (girls’ 15-16) and Jason Mirabueno (boys’ 15-16).

Besides Occeno and Villaruz, 12 more swimmers qualified for the World Games. They are Erla Agutaya, Ma. Rudette Casidsid, Casy Gumabong, Chrysser Palomado, Glenda Venerable, Pia Cardinal, Myles Chi, Loren Echavez, Cynthjune Goden, Keith Ocampo, Lester Tungala and Michael Measures.

John B. Lacson Swimming Team bagged the overall title with 714 points while the CPU Golden Lions (553) and Aklan Swimming Team (428) settled for second and third, respectively.

Rounding up the Top 10 are Panaad Swim Team (357), Colegio del Sagrado (257), Capiz Turbo Shark (241), Poseidon Swim Club (149), Southland College (87), Swim and Survive (52) and Sta. Fe State Club (50).
