Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Asia Pacific representative Iloilo Province finally checked in for action after missing its first two games but conceded a 1-11 setback to Canada Saturday in the Little League Softball World Series in Portland.

Arriving late and forfeiting their initial two outings, Iloilo reported for duty and actually held a 1-0 lead through four innings against Canada but the Hampfon LL squad from Victoria, British Columbia turned things around and roar with 9 runs in the bottom fifth to secure the win.

Iloilo dropped to 0-3 in Pool B.

The Ilonggas’ other world series team, meanwhile, were slated to start their quest in the Junior League Softball World Series Sunday over in Kirkland, Washington against USA Southeast’s Fort Myers.

Kasha Ross pitched a two-hitter and struck out six Iloilo batters to lead Canada to its first win after two losses.

On the offensive end, Ross had two hits in three at bats and made one run as teammate Kylie Katz batted in three runs on a two-for-three clip and reached the plate once.

Iloilo got on the scoreboard first, on a groundout RBI by Mae Langga, and maintained the upperhand until the top of the fourth.

Canada equalized off a hit by pitch then took the lead on a run-scoring single by Katz in the bottom fourth. The Canadians unleashed nine runs in the fifth off five errors, a fielder’s choice, and RBIs from Katz, Saleen Burnett, Jessica Strandlund and Taylor Chenard to take the game beyond’s the Pinays’ reach.
