MANILA, Philippines - Reigning boys champion University of the East (UE) hammered out consecutive straight-sets victories over the weekend to remain perfect in UAAP Season 77 high school volleyball tournament at the Adamson University gym.
The Junior Warriors, league champions for the last 10 seasons, whipped De La Salle-Zobel, 25-12, 25-18, 25-17, on Saturday and tournament newcomer Far Eastern University-Diliman, 25-17, 25-7, 25-13, yesterday.
Last season’s runner-up National University joined UE on top with a 3-0 card after beating University of Santo Tomas, 24-26, 25-16, 25-22, 26-24, on Saturday and UP Integrated School, 25-12, 25-16, 25-19 yesterday.
The erstwhile unbeaten Tiger Cubs dropped to 2-1 in a tie with Ateneo in third place. The Blue Eaglets defeated the Junior Archers, 25-16, 25-16, 25-21, yesterday.
The Baby Tamaraws, who booked their first-ever win in the league on Saturday by downing the Junior Maroons, 25-19, 25-22, 26-24, and La Salle-Zobel are 1-3 in the season. UPIS remained winless in four starts.
In girls play, titleholder UST turned back Adamson University, 25-20, 25-21, 25-22, on Saturday for its second straight win. FEU-Diliman prevailed over UPIS, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22, 25-13, for its first-ever victory in girls side, while NU beat UE, 25-17, 17-25, 25-7, 25-19.
