Petron Ladies beach volley resumes

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Three returning veterans are expected to renew their rivalry when the third leg of the Petron Ladies’ beach volleyball tournament gets under way today at the sand-courts of the De La Salle-Health Sciences Institute in Dasmariñas, Cavite.

Bernadette Pons, who last won the third-leg crown with FEU teammate Samantha Dawson two years ago, teams up with another schoolmate Charm Simborio, when action in the spikefest supported by Petron, Mikasa Balls and the DLS-HSI, begins at 8 a.m.

La Salle-Dasmariñas duo of Iari Yongco and Mariel won’t be around to challenge the FEU belles, unlike in the 2012 finals. But La Salle spikers Rosebeige Mendoza and Shiela Mae Nanqui will be out to foil the FEU duo’s bid.

University of the East spiker Krycel Cueva, who dueled with Pons and Dawson back in 2012, with Jessica Paron in the third-leg semis, will be paired with Francislyn Cais.

Cueva and Cais are renewing their partnership which took them to the semis of the 2012 Battle of Champions.

Matches are finally resuming after damage to facilities caused by the Typhoon Glenda forced organizers to cancel last week’s staging of the third leg.

San Beda’s Debbie Dultra will be with new partner Carmina Rebolledo, and so will Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas’ Alyanna Marie Gorospe, who will see action with another teammate, Alicia Adolfo.

Other entries include San Beda-2’s Shannen Limn and Camille de la Pena, Emilio Aguinaldo College-1’s Charmille Belleza and Clara Camille Lozada.

Also in the fold are EAC-2’s Yvonne Reyes and Arnie Yumul, Letran-1’s Jan Carreon and Kathleen Barrinuevo, and Letran’s Ethel Evangelista and Mikaela Lopez.
