Pacquiao fighting for money, says Floyd Sr.
MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Sr. thinks Manny Pacquiao wants to fight his son only for financial reasons.
The elder Mayweather is sure that deep inside him, Pacquiao doesn’t want a piece of Floyd Jr. except for the hefty payday that would come his way should the two fighters finally clash in a megabuck duel.
The brash father of the pound-for-pound king didn’t mince words in an interview with host Jenna J of On The Ropes Boxing Radio, wherein he again went on a verbal assault against Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach.
He says it’s Roach who wants the fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather more than the Filipino icon himself.
“Let me say this right here; Pacquiao runs his damn mouth all the time, talking [expletive] — at least Freddie Roach do. Freddie ‘The Joke Coach’ Roach, he runs his mouth. I don’t think it’s Pacquiao that much. Pacquiao, I know he really don’t want to fight,” he explained.
Floyd Sr. earlier said the much-anticipated showdown between his son and Pacquiao could happen sooner than expected, and Floyd Jr. himself even hinted about a “big surprise” when he announced his rematch with Marcos Maidana recently.
Boxing observers believe the younger Mayweather was referring to a possible fight with Pacquiao next year, potentially the richest in boxing history.
Pacquiao, for his part, has always been open to a bout with Mayweather, although he is set to face Chris Algieri in Macau on Nov. 23.
And ironically at one point, Pacquiao even offered to fight Mayweather for free.

But Floyd Sr. insists it’s only the money that matters now for Pacquiao, aware of the Filipino’s current tax woes.
“He’ll [Pacquiao] say he wants to fight and this and that but he don’t wanna fight. Pacquiao fights now because he needs money,” he continued.
“Pacquiao fights now because Pacquiao needs money and what Pacquiao’s got to understand is, he can’t believe people like Freddie ‘The Joke Coach’ Roach and that’s where the joke is coming from right there. His money’s being got and he don’t [expletive] even see it, that’s the joke right there,” Floyd Sr. ended.
