MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo-B, National U-B and Technological Institute of the Philippines-A dominated their respective rivals to lead the winners at the start of the 12th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at San Beda gym in Mendiola over the weekend.
The defending champion Blue Eagles drew 12 points from Dan Wong as they routed the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Maroons, 72-54, in a big start in the event backed by Bauerfeind medical products.
Cedrick Labing-Isa banged in 13 points as the NU-B Bulldogs whipped the TIP-B side, 70-47, while Chino Medina fired 12 points as the TIP-A cagers rolled past the Enderun College Titans, 74-43.
The league drew 40 school teams, including 25 in the seniors division, according to commissioner Robert de la Rosa.
Jaymark Carino shot eight points as the Blue Eagles pulled away by 12, 42-30, at halftime. Prince Mandin made 10 markers for the Maroons.
The Bulldogs also seized control in the early going, 16-9, and were never threatened the rest of the way while the Engineers also raced to a 24-12 bulge en route to the lopsided victory.
