Boxing Kontra Droga

MANILA, Philippines - Vinvin Rufino defends his Philippine featherweight crown against Christian Abila tonight in the main event of “Boxing Kontra Droga” at the Flash Grand ballroom of the Elorde Sports Center on Sucat Road, Parañaque.

Rufino, who is fighting out of the Elorde stable and currently ranked No. 4 in the Orient, seeks to get past Abila, who is managed by Johnny Monis, as he bids to improve his rating and get a possible shot at the Orient belt held by Japanese Hisashi Amagasa.

The Rufino-Abila fight will serve as the top draw of the boxing card presented by Johnny Elorde Management International in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Manila 101 under newly installed club president Felly Dy.

WBC No. 3 Jonathan Taconing also sees action against Thai Jaipetch Chaiyong in a duel expected to be as exciting as the mainer.

Taconing, who is preparing for a possible crack at the world title, is expects to have his hands full against Chaiyong, described as a strong fighter and a veteran of several muay thai fights.

 In the supporting mainers, Randy Braga faces Dexter Mendoza in a 10-round encounter at 128 lbs while comebacking Glen Sumingit battles Junar Adante in a six-round showdown at 125 lbs.

The preliminaries feature Roderick Flores versus Ryan Medes (6 Rds., 116 lbs.), Raymond Yanong against Adu Ebron (4 Rds at 130 lbs) and Marlon Panlamogan versus Jaymark Borbon (4 Rds at 131 lbs.)
