More schools joining Tempra Run vs Dengue

MANILA, Philippines - The Tempra Run Against Dengue has lured more schools as it braces for its third edition on July 20 at 4 a. m., at the Cultural Center of the Philippines grounds.

“Last year’s run was held in Quezon City, now we’re moving to Pasay City and we expect bigger participation because a lot of schools have expressed their intention to partner with us,” said Cleo Nodado, marketing manager of Taisho Pharmaceuticals, yesterday at the PSA Forum at the Shakey’s in Malate.

“The Run Against Dengue is intended for participants to have fun while spreading awareness about the need to fight dengue. And we are very happy to note that we’ve been doing our part to at least minimize if not totally eradicate this deadly epidemic,” Nodado added.

Matt Ardina, project director of the organizing Subterranean Ideas, said that this early, more than 2,000 students from partner schools, such as Emilio Aguinaldo College, Philippine School of Business Administration, La Salle-Dasma, Pamantasan ng Pasay, among others, have signified their intention to join the run, which is held in coordination with the city government of Pasay led by Mayor Antonino Calixto.

Part of net proceeds from the advocacy run, which is also backed by Pasay City, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Medicard, Business Mirror, Health and Fitness Magazine, Toby’s and Guard Insect Repellent, will be used for the purchase of various anti-dengue modalities to be distributed in selected day-care centers and barangays in the city.

Four categories comprise the fun run, now on its third year, namely 10k (P500), 4k (P400), 2k (P350) and Family Run (P300 each runner)--the event’s newest division featuring a parent (or parents) running for a distance of 1k with his or her kid/s. Toby’s Arena in Glorietta 2 and Toby’s-SM Manila are the registration partners. Runners may also register at the site an hour prior to the gun start of the 10k run on race day.
