Zamora betters nat’l junior marks in Coseteng Cup

MANILA, Philippines - University of Santo Tomas standout Sean Terence Zamora broke two national junior records on the opening day of the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) 59th Leg Series dubbed fifth Coseteng Swim Cup at the Rizal Memorial swimming pool.

The 13-year-old Zamora checked in at two minutes, 19.44 seconds in the boys’ 200-meter Individual Medley to surpass the 12-year-old national junior mark of Michaelmars Danila (2:19.85) registered in Palawan in 2002.

Zamora got a P3,000 cash reward.

“The swimmers and coaches are inspired and motivated. We will bring them to international competitions with free airfare and accommodation. And for every national record they break, we are giving them incentives – P8,000 for national and P3,000 for junior national record,” said PSL president Susan Papa.

Zamora shared the spotlight with McTracy John Alindogan of Angeles University Foundation in the boys’ 50-meter backstroke of the tournament supported by Magnolia.

They submitted a similar time of 30.08 seconds, to erase the 31.00 national junior mark of Banjo Borja in the 29th Southeast Asian Age-Group Swimming Championships held in Brunei, Darussalam in 2005.

Zamora and Alindogan split the P3,000 cash incentive.
