Alabang makes sizzling WGAP rebound at home

MANILA, Philippines - Shut out in the kickoff leg at Villamor, Alabang rebounded strong at home, topping Class A while finishing second and third in two other divisions in the second leg of the 2014 WGAP Circuit at the Alabang Golf Club recently.

Joselyn Garcia and Christine Naidoo fired identical 38 points under the Modified Stableford scoring system while Marilyn Reyes and Rita Horan shot 36 and 34 points, respectively, as Alabang pooled a 146 to beat Villamor, which assembled a 143 behind Sam Martirez’s 39 points, Harmie Constantino’s 36, Kristine Torralba’s 35 and Josephine Barredo’s 33, for the premier crown in the 10-to-play, four-to-count format event presented by Champion Infinity.

Manila Southwoods, with Sunshine Baraquiel and Kim Eun Hee shooting a pair of 36s, and Kim Yong Mi and Denise Tambuatco scoring 35 markers each, wound up third at 142 after topping the kickoff leg of the circuit organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Phl at Villamor.

Forest Hills and Valley Golf tied for fourth at 137 while Camp Aguinaldo made a 136 and Tagaytay Highlands, Sta. Elena and Orchard had 133, 130 and 119, respectively, with Highlands’ Kim Hee Sun copping the Class A individual honors with 41 points.

Sta. Elena, led by Marit Yuchengco’s 38 points, Nancy Ortiga and Jennifer Lugones’ 36 markers and Lily Chan’s 34, took the Class B plum with a 144 for a four-point victory over Canlubang, which made a 140 as Recy Barrientos hit 39 points, Melona Carida shot a 36, and Terry Parala and Rosita Laurel chipped 32 points apiece. Alabang, despite Luarlene Barclay’s whopping 43-point explosion that netted her the Class B individual crown, ended up third with a 139 as Hsieh Lan Fen added a 33, Rizalina Orosa made a 32 and Ma. Elena Villanueva tossed in a 31.

Villamor placed fourth at 136 followed by Riviera (134), Forest Hills (126), Orchard (125) and Tagaytay Highlands (114).

Camp Aguinaldo leaned on Ruby Hamis’ 41-point effort while Lally Trinidad, Hazel Gabud and Cathy Ferrer scored 35, 34 and 34, respectively, as it produced a 148 to edge Alabang by two and clinch the Class C plum. The hosts, who failed to post a podium finish at Villamor, drew a pair of 37s from Carol Nielsen and Connie Moncur and two 36s from Minerva Castillo and Liberty de Castro, for a 146.

Tagaytay, the reigning three-time defending champion, pooled a 142 behind Margaret Tan’s 42, Dionne Cu’s 35, Deena Mendiola’s 34 and Mely Leyeza’s 33, to finish third in the second leg of the eight-stage circuit featuring the leading golfing ladies from the country’s top clubs.

Canlubang’s Janette Leynes shot 40 points to bag the Class C individual title with the Laguna-based squad finishing fourth at 140 followed by Villamor (128), Valley (115), Forest Hills (112) and Sta. Elena (100).
