MANILA, Philippines - Eastridge served notice of its serious championship bid by sweeping Mimosa in the opening matches of the Men’s Federation League 2014 Matches in various courses recently.
Parading its new recruits, Eastridge scored a 4-1 win at home then followed it up with a 3-2 decision on the road to take early leadership in Group 1 with a perfect slate.
Eastridge was the only team emerging with two wins as Wack Wack and Forest Hills split their matches while Sta. Elena won at home and forced a draw in the away game with Tagaytay Highlands.
Wack Wack looked solid with a 5-0 sweep in its hosting turn only to be dealt a stinging 2-3 defeat by a resurgent Forest Hills which played minus its old reliables.
Four teams ended the first round of home-and-away battles with identical records in Group 2 after Alabang and Eagle Ridge exchanged home wins both in thrilling fashion.
Alabang first took a 3-2 decision at home but Eagle Ridge made sure it didn’t fall into a 0-2 hole with its own 3-2 result in its hosting turn.
Highlands was able to force a 2.5-2.5 draw at home before yielding a 2-3 loss at Sta. Elena.
Defending champion Valley opens its title-retention campaign at Sta. Elena, Alabang hosts Orchard, Wack Wack visits Eagle Ridge and Eastridge plays at Tagaytay Highlands in this week’s matches.
