MANILA, Philippines - Princess Superal flashed superb form and fired a four-under 71 to capture the low medal honors in the US Girls’ Sectional Qualifying at the Walnut Creek Country Club in South Lyon, Missouri last Thursday.
Superal, who moved to world No. 63 from last week’s ranking of 83rd following her runner-up finish in the Porter Cup in New York, rattled off five birdies to negate a lone-bogey mishap on No. 7 and dominate the field in one of the sectional elims of the US Girls’ Junior Championships where the winner gains a berth in the event set July 21-26 in Far Hllls, New Jersey.
The top ICTSI-backed bet finished five strokes ahead of Arizona’s Morgan Gonzales and Ohio’s Haylee Harford, who turned in identical 72s at the par-71 layout.
Superal, who came from behind to beat a Thai rival and cop the Jakarta Junior crown last month, birdied No. 2, 5 and 6 inside seven feet, dropped a shot on the seventh but buried an eight-footer for birdie on No. 14 to complete a 33-37 card in the 18-hole elims.
The event is part of Team ICTSI’s overseas campaign this summer with Superal also set to see action in the Women’s Western Tournament starting June 23 in Pennsylvania while Pauline Del Rosario, last year’s Junior World champion (13-14), will play as an invitee at the Yani Tseng tournament in California on July 1.
