Arellano, Dansalan off for World chess

MANILA, Philippines - Milo Checkmate kids Jerome Gabriel Arellano and Jan Franchezka Dansalan will leave for Washington DC on June 27 to compete in the annual World Open set July 2-6 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia.

Arellano, 14, of Sacred Heart Academy of Novaliches, Quezon City, and the 15-year-old Dansalan of Divine Light Academy of Las Piñas City, are two of Milo Checkmate leading players who are expected to contend for top honors in the World Open. They will be accompanied by delegation head WNM Mila Emperado.

The annual trip is part of the Checkmate training program which gives opportunities for deserving players to gain exposure abroad at an early age.

Arellano’s trip is supported by Quezon City Vice Mayor Josefina Belmonte, OSM Maritime Services, Inc., AMOSUP, NOVADECI, PRC’s Professional Regulatory Boards, PRC’s Board of Marine Engineers and Deck officers and members while Dansalan is backed by the Municipality of Tanay, Rizal, Barangay San Isidro of Tanay, Rizal, Richard Maglonzo, Halamanan Restaurant, Divine Light Academy, Mayor’s office of Las Piñas, Barangay Talon 2 BFRV Las Piñas and SCS Petshop.
