MANILA, Philippines – President Aquino has signed the bill declaring Brooklyn Nets center Andray Blatche as a naturalized Filipino.
Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes confirmed the development in his Twitter account (@coachchot).
Just got word the President has signed @drayblatche citizenship papers. Maraming Salamat, Mr, President!

The signing comes as a welcome relief for Gilas, who is banking on Blatche to reinforce them in the coming FIBA World Cup.
The Senate unanimously approved on third and final reading of Senate Bill 2108, which grants Blatche Filipino citizenship, last May 26. If not signed by the President, the bill will naturally become a law once the 30-day grace period lapses on June 30.
But the deadline of submission of the documents of naturalized players to the FIBA world also falls on the same date, making President Aquino’s move timely.
The 27-year-old Blatche arrived in the country Sunday to familiarize himself with the country and its culture.
