MANILA, Philippines - Brothers Marcen and Cenon Gonzales disposed of their respective rivals to dominate the last leg of the 16th Head Junior satellite circuit national tennis annual age-group tournament Manila leg at the Meralco tennis courts in Ortigas recently.

The top seeded Marcen played true to form to blast Romnee Kyle Joseph, 6-3, 6-0, and cop the boys’ 18-under singles title of the satellite junior tennis competition which drew more than 300 players in Metro Manila.

He then teamed up with Jose Nicolas Cano and repulsed Elijah Arevalo and Noel Atienza, 7-5,      4-6, 6-3, to clinch the 18-U doubles crown.

Cenon, on the other hand, downed Joel Atienza, 6-4, 6-4, to pocket the 16-U crown in the tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) and supported by Smart Communications, Smart Sports, Chris Sports, HEAD Graphene, Toalson and Head, the official tennis ball.

“We saw lots of new good players. In fact, we already signed up some kids already from Cebu, Mountain Province, Osamis and some places to be part of our Team Head Philippines,” said Liza Tang-Yuquico of Dynamic Sports Corp., the exclusive distributor of Head in the country.

Top seed Colleen Sioson defeated second seed Aimea Rosales, 6-3, 6-3, to bag the girls’ 18-U singles plum, while Melanie Faye Dizon took the 16-U and 14-U crowns with a 6-0, 6-0, romp over Chloe Saraza and 1-0 (ret.) win over Rafa Villanueva, respectively.
