Gonzales brods clash in Head satellite Final 4
MANILA, Philippines - Cenon and older brother Marcen Angelo Gonzales defeated their respective quarterfinals foes and arranged a showdown of sibilings in the semifinals of the 16th Head Junior satellite circuit yesterday at the Meralco tennis courts in Ortigas.
Cenon prevailed over Jose Nicolas Cano in the boys’ 18-under, 3-6, 6-4, 12-10, while Marcen trounced Joel Atienza, 6-1, 6-1, to set up a semis duel in the Manila leg of the circuit.
Mark Agner stunned Manuel Balce also in the boys’ 18-under singles, 7-6, 6-3, to enter the semis against Elijah Arevalo who ousted Thomas Puno, 6-4, 6-2.
The event, sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association, is supported by Smart Communications, Smart Sports, Chris Sports, Head Graphene, Toalson and Head, the official ball.
In girls’ 16-under singles, Colleen Sioson outshone Isobelle Ortaliz, 6-0, 6-2, while No. 4 Melanie Faye Dizon blanked Ibiza Mae Perez, 6-0, 6-1.
Second seed Chloe Saraza won by double default to easily reach the semis. She will battle Rafa Villanueva. who eased out Bianca Catoto, 6-0, 6-0.
Sioson outplayed Angelica Hopia in the girls’ 18-under, 6-0, 6-4, to face Jenesis Apilado who bashed Kiana Gacias, 6-2, 6-1.
Aimea Rosales routed Katrina Penaflor in girls’ 18-under, 6-3, 6-2, to advance against Keisha Sagondoy, who won over Prisha Leigh Cruz, 6-0, 6-2.
