AdU, CKSC rule HDBL interclub tiff

MANILA, Philippines - Adamson and Chiang Kai Shek College overpowered their rivals to emerge inaugural champions in their respective divisions in the Headstart Developmental Basketball League (HDBL) Freshgear Cup Interclub at the SGS gym on Araneta Avenue, Quezon City last Thursday.

Drawing 20 points from Robby Darang and a near double-double performance from EJ Agbong, the Baby Falcons whipped the Chiang Kai Shek College side, 65-39, to reign supreme in the 15-years division of the event presented by Freshgear.

Agbong finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks in a brilliant all-around performance while Carl Brondial contributed 10 markers.

The CKSC Dragons, on the other hand, topped the 12-years and under division of the tournament organized by Edster Sy and sponsored by Duralite, AXA, and Iwata as they trounced the iCure of Jubilee Academy squad, 65-49, behind the hot shooting of Rejoice Jimenez, Geo Cruz and Rien Eusebio. 
Akio Enlai Yu of iCure was held scoreless this time after averaging 26 points in the elims. Adrian Benedict Ang paced iCure with 15 markers.

Darang was named MVP in the 15-years division and led the Mythical team along with Agbong, Gershom Montes and Joshua Ramires of CKSC and Matthew Ang of St. Jude Catholic School.

Aside from making it to the Mythical Selection in the 12-years category, Jimenez also won the MVP plum in the tournament with Willy Chan as tournament director. Other members of the Mythical Five are Eusebio, Yu, Ang and Airick Sy of Pace Academy.
