MANILA, Philippines - Southwestern University’s center Landry Sanjo, who led the Cobras to a 3-1 record in the past week, bagged the Purefoods Best Player of the Week in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.
Sanjo normed 24.2 points and 13.2 rebounds in a stretch where they played four matches in five days, thus powering the Cobras to their first quarterfinal stint in the country’s premier collegiate pre-season tournament.
The Cameroonian center was also among those cited in the Gatorade Best Performances of the week, along with NU’s Gelo Alolino, La Salle’s Jason Perkins and Jeron Teng and CEU’s Samboy de Leon.
Sanjo also swept Filoil’s weekly awards by bagging the Gatorade Defensive Player Award, after norming eight defensive rebounds, 0.2 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game.
Meanwhile, St. Clare and Mapua clash today, each hoping to close out their campaign on a winning note. Both toting 1-4 records, St. Clare and Mapua face off at 2 p.m. with UP (1-4) and Emilio Aguinaldo College (2-3) colliding at 4 p.m.
In juniors play, NCAA rivals La Salle Greenhills and San Sebastian tangle at 10:45 a.m. while UST and Rizal Technological University face off at 12:30 p.m. in women’s division.
De La Salle Zobel and National University close out the day’s games at 5:45 p.m. in the other juniors contest.
