MANILA, Philippines - Alex Compton is the new head coach of the Alaska Milk Aces, taking over from Luigi Trillo who stepped down from his post just after their second game in the 2014 PBA PLDT Home Telpad Governors Cup.
Team owner Wilfred Uytengsu made the announcement in a statement released to the media two days after Alaska dropped a 91-95 decision to Globalport.
“We are appreciative of Luigi’s efforts during his tenure as head coach and in piloting the Aces to our 14th PBA title. But it has been a challenging ride the past three conferences,†said Uytengsu.
After its title run in the 2013 Commissioner’s Cup, Alaska failed to finish in the Top Five in the next three conferences.
The Aces finished fourth in the elimination round of the 2014 Commissioner’s Cup but were booted out by the eventual champs San Mig Coffee Mixers in the quarterfinals.
“The Trillo name will always be fondly associated with the Aces owing to the fact that Joaqui Trillo served as team manager for 25 years as well as the Aces representative to the PBA Board of Governors. And together with his son Luigi, they were the only father/son (team manager-head coach) tandem to lead a franchise to a PBA title,†Uytengsu said.
