Air Force, Brunei belles top softball tilt

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Air Force -1 completed a sweep of all its games to dominate the Men’s Open Division of the recently-concluded Cebuana Lhuillier Summer Grandslam 8 Softball Invitationals in Marikina City, punctuating it with an abbreviated 7-0 win over Philippine Navy in the finals.

In the women’s side of the week-long competition that attracted teams from different parts of the country and abroad, visiting Chikara from Brunei not only prevented an expected all-Adamson finals but went all the way to win the crown, beating defending champion Adamson University, 6-2.

Top ranked PAF-1’s victory was anchored on a three run homerun by Michael Pagkaliwagan in the 5th inning that saw Andre Cuyugan, Jerome Bacarisas, and Pagkaliwagan scooting to the home plate for a 5-0 lead, and helped by a throwing error of PN pitcher Jorge Marquez in the bottom half of the 6th inning, resulting to two more runs by King Manay and Jerry Estanislao for the victory.

“Kumpiyansa kaming manalo at maganda ang conditioning namin. Nung nag homerun si Pagkaliwagan, sabi ko amin na ito, “ said PAF-1 coach Staff Sergeant Ruben Angeles.
