Sarangani Bay fest under way

MANILA, Philippines - The Sarangani Bay Festival gets going today and tomorrow with wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) backing the event aimed at helping raise public awareness of ecological concerns affecting the province of Sarangani and its neighboring towns and cities.

The annual festival, organized by the Sarangani provincial government and supported by Smart for the third straight time, will be held at Gumasa, Glan in Sarangani Province. 

In particular, the province is calling for the ecological preservation of Sarangani Bay and the country’s rain forests.

One of the highlights of the festival that is also co-organized by Smart is the triathlon dubbed “Swim, Bike, Run for the Environment,” the first triathlon race to be staged in seven years of the festival.

“This partnership with the Province of Sarangani highlights our commitment to work with the local government and partner-communities in promoting environmental conservation and sustainability in the face of global climate change,” said Ramon Isberto, public affairs group head of Smart.

The triathlon, to be held at Gumasa, one of the country’s southernmost beach areas, is expected to give participants a unique experience with its challenging course.
