St. Clare scores 2nd straight win
MANILA, Philippines - St. Clare stunned San Beda, 88-76, to notch its second straight victory after back-to-back losses in the Fr. Martin Cup summer basketball tournament at San Beda gym in Mendiola last Tuesday.
Jayson Ibay and Cameroonian Fabien Redoh scored 15 points apiece as the Saints tied their victims at second behind the unbeaten UST Tigers (4-0) in Group B.
The Saints’ latest win came a week after they got past the Diliman Computer Technology Institute (DCTI) Senators (Diliman Preparatory School), 76-44, and remained in the hunt for a quarterfinal berth.
St. Clare dominated San Beda early, racing to a 30-18 before fending off the Red Lions’ series of fightbacks to clinch the win.
In other games, the University of Perpetual Help Altas whipped the Arellano U Chiefs, 81-71, to stretch their win run to five in Group A while PATTS hacked out a thrilling 71-70 victory over Centro Escolar University-Malolos.
Trinity University of Asia stopped Far Eastern University, 83-72, in the other contest.
while Our Lady of Fatima University defeated Adamson, 79-72, and Xavier School downed Chiang Kai Shek, 83-72, in junior play.
