Jungolfers rule John Hay Invitational

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Junior golf stars Paolo Wong and Aidric Chan played the sleek Bentgrass greens with precision putting as they combined for a gross of 145 to capture the overall crown in the 10th Camp John Hay Invitational in Baguio City.

Wong and Chan, barely 13, already showed nerves of steel on the greens with aggregates of 76 and 69 under the Modified Stableford scoring to beat even the veteran savvy members.

Jess Ambucay and partner Deo Halog of Veterans Golf Club shared the spotlight with their 164 to win the overall net title in the two-day event presented by Golforce Inc. and sponsored by John Hay Coffee.

The Class A honors went to Kim Jun-young and Florentino Villarmia with a 163 total at the John Hay course dotted with 250,000 of lush pine tees and cool weather – a perfect setting to the Invitational’s 10th anniversary.

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan graced the affair backed by PLDT, Willowtree Dev. Co., Megafiber, Rudy Project, Wilson, Korean Palace Restaurant and Canon.

Emperador, Manila Southwoods, Baguio Country Club, The Forest Lodge, Hillstation, Forest Hills, Sherwood Hills, Eagle Ridge, Mario’s, Le Chef, CJH Dev. Co., Alveo, Bishops Foundation, Pugo Adventure, and Crown Legacy were hole sponsors.

The pair of former winners John Marasigan and Patrick Villanueva made 163 to rule Class B while Tony Tactay and Alfonso King’s shared low handicap got them the Class C plum after they carded 164.

Fernando Tizon and Hector Villanueva also shot 164 to come out on top in Class D. General manager Ramon Cabrera and guest Rey Martinez, representing The Manor, were the sponsors/guests division champs with 148.
