Phl bets bag four golds in Hong Kong swim meet

The Philippine Star

HONG KONG – The Philippine Swimming League bagged eight more medals including three golds on the second day of the 2014 Hong Kong Stingrays Swimming Championships held at the Hong Kong International School swimming pool here.

Sean Terence Zamora, who won one gold medal Saturday, continued his impressive showing as he copped three more mints in the boys’ 13-14 years class.

Zamora, winner of eight golds in Royal Bangkok Meet and 11 golds in the Australia Swimming Championships, topped the 100-meter backstroke in one minute, 3.48 seconds, good enough to beat silver medalist Nicholas Chan of Hong Kong (1:06.89) and another Hong Kong bet Jonathan Cheung (1:08.25).

Zamora reigned supreme in 200m butterfly in 2:17.88 and 200m backstroke in 2:18.52 to become the top candidate for the Most Outstanding Swimmer in his age-group.

“This kid (Zamora) is really promising. We in the PSL, will continue to guide him to achieve his goals in the future. He still has two more events and we’re hoping that he’ll deliver again,” said Papa.

Reigning University Athletic Association of the Philippines Rookie of the Year Christen Mercado of UP chipped in one silver in the boys’ 17-over 100m backstroke (1:02.91) and one bronze in the 100m freestyle (57.16).

Cape Town Swim Meet champion Kyla Soguilon also added one silver and one bronze in the girls’ 9 years category. She placed second in the 50m freestyle (34.46) and third in the 50m butterfly (38.98).
