MANILA, Philippines - Manila Water has lined up a series of activities to celebrate Earth Day 2014 aimed at raising public consciousness on the need to preserve and protect the environment, including the Pro Earth Run which drew more than 5,000 runners at the Bonifacio Global City recently.

Manila Water Operations Group director Geodino Carpio said the celebration of this year’s Earth Day with the theme “Earth Day Everyday, Everywhere, for Everyone” comes at a time when our environment is facing several challenges.

At the same time, Carpio appealed to all stakeholders to commemorate the celebration not only once a year but to be  true to their commitment to protect and conserve the environment as part of their everyday  activities.

“We should not only do it once a year,” said Carpio, adding that there is a need to further enhance activities that are beneficial to the environment on a regular basis to help raise public awareness on such a very pressing issue.

Other activities on tap are the amazing kiddie race, a fun and interactive way for kids to appreciate the environment such as the importance of water and how to care for Mother Earth – the Amazing Race way, and the La Mesa Watershed Nature Walk.

As part of its commitment to protect the environment, Manila Water has embedded the principles of sustainable development and sound environmental practices in its operations and has also recognized employees who have shown exemplary resource efficiency and cleaner production initiatives in daily operations.
