Ali tweets Floyd: Fight Pacquiao
CEBU CITY , Philippines – Even Muhammad Ali is waiting for Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Manny Pacquiao.
Just shortly after Mayweather stayed unbeaten yesterday, the greatest boxer of them all posted on his official Twitter page a message to Mayweather.
First, he congratulated Mayweather for his victory over Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand.
“Congratulations @FloydMayweather,†said Ali or whoever does the tweeting for him.
Then came the message that sounded more like an urgent appeal.
“Maybe after you rest up we can see you rumble with @MannyPacquiao!,†said Ali.
For a few years now, the world has been waiting for Mayweather to fight Pacquiao for a showdown that’s expected to break all existing records in boxing.
A couple of times they came close to sealing the deal but various issues keep on holding them back, from drug testing to purse split to the differences between their promoters.
Pacquiao has recovered from back-to-back defeats in 2012 with two straight wins over Brandon Rios and Tim Bradley, and may return to the ring in November.
If Mayweather wants to, he can fight Pacquiao in November.
Lennox Lewis, also a former world heavyweight champion, aired the same view after Mayweather’s victory over Maidana.
“Honestly the only fight I want to see for Mayweather is Pacquiao!†the British boxer said.
Lewis accompanied his tweet with the hashtag #TheGrandFinale.
The world really can’t wait for this one.
