Abdulquohar leads Head winners

MANILA, Philippines - Zamboanga City’s Allian Abdulquohar and Mary Grace Zapanta beat their respective rivals to lead the winners in the fifth leg of the 16th Head Junior satellite circuit-Visayas region at the Montevista tennis club in Bacolod City yesterday.

Abdulquohar outlasted Ralp Sevilla in a tight first-set duel before cruising to a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 victory to pocket the boys’ 18-under singles crown. 

Zapanta took the girls’ singles 18- and 16-under division titles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Judelle Juntarciago and a 7-5, 6-2 romp over Tracy Llamas, respectively, in the event backed by Smart Communications, Smart Sports, Chris Sports, Head Graphene, Toalson and Head, the official tennis ball.

Zapanta also teamed up with Llamas to defeat Carlyn Bless Guarde and Andea Seballos, 8-6, for the 18-and-under doubles’ crown in the event sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association.

Top seed Carlyn Bless Guarde took the girls’ 14-under singles. crown by thumping Ellain Rose Bahonsua, 6-1, 6-1, while Stephanie Crisosto outplayed Shedel Gica, 6-0, 6-1, to snare the girls’ 12-and-U title.

Matthew Crisosto upset Karl Baran, 6-1, 6-2, to clinch the 16-under singles title, while Karl Baran trounced Joshua Regino, 6-2, 6-2, to cop the 14-and-U diadem.

Venz Anton Alforque defeated Fern Po, 6-3, 6-4, to bag the boys’ 12-and-U crown while Cesar Salimbangon whipped Fern Po, 6-1, 6-1, to capture the unisex 10-under title.
