Kenyans top Turtle Run at Punta
MANILA, Philippines - Willy Tanui and Irene Kipchumba stamped their class and ruled their respective divisions in record fashions as the Kenyans dominated the third Turtle Run in Punta Fuego, Batangas recently.
Tanui timed 16:41 minutes in winning the men’s Open 5K run while Kipchumba topped the ladies side in 20:14 minutes, also a record in the annual event organized by Punta Fuego Village Homeowners’s Association Inc. and Club Punta Fuego headed by race director, village resident Tony Quila.
They each received P5,000 cash, medals and other prizes.
Rexcel Ray Aguilar topped the 2.6K intermediate run in 10:27 while Andie Quila took the women’s crown in 14:26. Other winners were Raymark de los Santos (10:26-boys) and Sophia Almendral (13:38-girls); Jhayson Martizano (12:28-teen boys) and Lucia Lorenzo (17:26-teen girls); David Reynolds (17:26-masters men’s) and Marie Jabson (23:38-masters women’s).
Jan Denielle Sale and Mercurie Majara ruled the kiddies category of the event, which drew some 200 runners. All winners received medals and gifts from sponsors.
Proceeds from the fun run will fund the Punta Fuego’s Turtle conservation projects, Bantay-Dagat operations, sea scouts program, coral reef protection, giant clams seeding and mangrove development.
The event was sponsored by Club Punta Fuego, Kenneth and Mock, Shakey’s Phils., Smart Infinity, Jones Lang Lasalle Leechiu, PhilSTAR and Landco Pacific Corp.
