MANILA, Philippines - Mandaluyong bagged four gold medals and took a bronze to capture the overall championship in the 2014 PLDT-ABAP Luzon Area Boxing Tournament at the Central School grounds in Infanta, Quezon recently.
Tayabas came in second with two golds, two silvers and three bronzes while La Union finished third with 1-2-1 haul.
Nueva Vizcaya wound up with one gold and two bronzes while Occidental Mindoro had two silvers and a bronze, Sorsogon and University of Baguio a bronze and silver each, and Quezon Province settled for a lone bronze.
Luis Evander Borje outpointed La Union’s Lawrence Ordonio, 2-1, in the jr. boys 54kg. bantamweight division final; Robert Onggocan stopped another La Union bet, Billy Joe Torres, via TKO in the youth boys 46kg. pin weight category; Jay Arre Arcilla dominated Occidental Mindoro’s Jose Peldigera Jr., 3-0, in the youth boys 49kg. light flyweight class; and Medardo Noculan Jr. overwhelmed University of Baguio’s Jay-R Mengote, 3-0, in the youth boys 56kg. bantamweight division.
Tayabas’ Jonjie Maritana pounded Sorsogon’s Mark Magas, 3-0, in jr. boys 46kg. pin weight, and Archie Esteleydes, a close 2-1 winner over Occidental Mindoro’s Raymart Mingao in jr. boys 50kg. flyweight.
Nueva Vizcaya, meanwhile, won behind Bryan Bacsa, who stunned Tayabas’ John Paul Ramos, 2-1, in the jr. boys 48kg. light flyweight division.
