Mbomiko powers Lyceum over Trinity in Fr. Martin cagefest

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Abdulaziz Mbomiko struck with 27 points as the Lyceum Philippines University-B Pirates escaped with a 66-59 beating of the Trinity University of Asia Stallions, 66-59, , last Sunday in the 20th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the St. Placid gymnasium of the San Beda College campus in Manila.

Mbomiko’s triple in the last 1:45 allowed the Pirates to get away with a 10-0 windup and register their third straight win.

This allowed them to share the Group A leadership with the University of Perpetual Help Altas.

LPU-B’s latest triumph came as LPU-A picked up their first win in two games in Group B following a 93-89 win over the National University-A Bulldogs in overtime.

In the junior division, the Tyler Tio-led Xavier School Golden Stallions turned back the San Beda-A Red Cubs, 95-93, for their first win in two games in Group B.

The SBC-B Red Cubs crushed the Emilio Aguinaldo College-ICA Brigadiers, 79-63, for their second victory in three matches in Group A.

The Pirates were struggling with their 56-59 deficit when Mbomiko struck with his trey and tied the match for the last time, 59-all.

Christian Pamulaklakin then stepped up with his split free throw, and so did Peejay Soliman, whose drive in the last 1:03 gave LPU-B a three-point spread, 62-59.

Mark Doligon hit 18 points for the Trinity Stallions, who are winless after two outings.
