MANILA, Philippines - Art Grand Prix junior driver Gabe Cabrera breezed his way to another impressive two-title romp recently in the kickoff of the 2014 Petron Blaze 100 ROK Cup Karting Super Series at the Carmona Racetrack.
Cabrera, 14, outshone seasoned veteran Bobby Domingo in the final race to capture both the premier ROK overall and the ROK junior crowns.
Domingo appeared headed for a big sweep following his commanding show in the qualifying and pre-final heats.
Seizing his chances, Cabrera didn’t force the issue in the first two heats as he focused more on weighing possibilities of stealing the limelight from the more experienced rival.
Convinced that he could eclipse Domingo, he went all out in the 20-lap final race, crossing the line in 14 minutes, 46.385 seconds or 7.423 seconds ahead of Domingo to emerge the ROK overall Blaze 100 champion.
Lean Linao claimed third place while Brian Thorp of AUTS Racing and Jacob Ang of Eagle Cement were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Cabrera copped the ROK Junior Blaze 100 title over Jacob Ang.
Domingo eventually emerged the ROK Senior Blaze 100 champion over runner-up Linao and third placer Thorp. Allison Julian finished fourth and Wayne Darvin fifth.
Ang bagged the ROK Clubman Blaze 100 plum over Julian while Michael Jordan took the ROK Master Blaze 100 title over Julius Milla.
The event is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Petron, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4, Petron XCS, Petron Ultron, Petron Xtra, Petron Sprint, Magnolia Pure Water and Yokohama.
The next leg is set May 10-11 at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
