Power Pinays suffer straight-set beating vs Japan

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – PLDT Home TVolution Philippines ran into world-class opposition and absorbed a humiliating 25-7, 25-13, 25-12, bashing at the hands of title contender Hisamitsu Spring Japan to kiss its title chances goodbye in the 2014 Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand on Wednesday.

The Power Pinays, who caught the last quarterfinals bus by finishing fourth in the six-team Group B with a 2-3 (win-loss) record, were thus relegated to the consolation pool where they have a chance to finish fifth at best and eight at worst.

The Phl, however, isn't stopping from there as it is seeking to surpass its men's counterparts' seventh place finish in the Asian Men's Club Championship the country hosted at the MOA Arena in Pasay City two weeks ago.

It will play the loser of the showdown between Zhetyssue Almaty Kazakhstan and Lien Viet Post Bank Vietnam, which was being played at press time hoping for a win that will assure the Phl at least a sixth place effort.
