SM Skating Rink hold int’l tourney

MANILA, Philippines - The International Skating Union (ISU) World Development Trophy will be held April 21-26 with 56 skaters from 15 countries vying for top honors at the SM Skating Rink at the newly opened Mega Fashion Hall at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

The Philippine Skating Union will be fielding in six skaters in three categories – juniors, Novice A and Novice B, in the event, organized by ISU in cooperation with PhSU. They include Sofia Guidote, Audrey Alcaraz, Alyssa Comia, Elia Mendoza, Keith Stephanie Angeles and Dominique Katigbak.

They will slug it out against the best junior skaters from Argentina, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Korea DPR, Singapore, South Africa, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan. 

During the competition, the SM Skating Rink at Megamall will be open only from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. from April 21-25 and will be closed on April 26 for the ISU World Development Trophy.

With support from ISU, the exclusive international sports federation for figure and speed skating recognized by the International Olympic Committee, the PhSU will host future international events such as the Asian Short Track Speed Skating Development Trophy, the first ISU Asian Figure Skating Championship and the ISU World Juniors and ISU Four Continents Championships.

SM has been the primary supporter of the PhSU and competitive ice skating since the latter was established in 2005. SM also provides a venue for the events of PhSU for the promotion of ice skating in the Philippines.
