FEU blasts St. Benilde, keeps hopes alive

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University carved out a surprise 55-48 win over College of St. Benilde to keep its final hopes alive in the third Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL) Dickies Women’s Cup elimination held over the weekend at the CEU Lumera Tower gym in Legarda.

Clare Castro took charge for FEU, dominating both ends to finish with 15 points and 15 rebounds as the Lady Tamaraws improved to 2-4 to tie the Lady Blazers at fourth.

The 6-foot-4 Castro thus claimed her first Player of the Game award in the six-team tournament presented by Dickies.

Centro Escolar University and University of Santo Tomas kept their 1-2 positions by scoring contrasting wins in the tournament also sponsored by Smart Telecom, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Power House, CW Home Depot, Dickies Underwear and Hapee Toothpaste.

CEU leaned on a big fourth quarter explosion to beat UAAP champion La Salle, 72-65, and extend its winning streak to six, while the Tigresses clobbered newcomer Fatima side, 77-20, for a 5-1 record.

The Lady Archers slipped to 3-3, putting their final bid in peril.
