Dooley scores first win as Azkals blast Nepal

Alder Almo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Azkals scored a 3-0 rout of Nepal in the Grand Hamad Stadium in Qatar Friday to give new American coach Thomas Dooley his first win.

The 3-0 victory came after the Azkals moved down 13 spots in the FIFA rankings following a 0-0 draw vs Malaysia and a 0-1 loss to Azerbaijan since Dooley took over.

New recruit Curt Dizon struck in the 14th minute to open the Azkals' scoring parade. Martin Steuble added one more in the 32nd minute as the Akals sat on a 2-0 cushion at the half.

The 159th ranked Nepalese never recovered from the early hole. Balut Doctora capped off the demolition job with a goal at the 90th minute.

The Azkals will continue their build-up for the AFC Challenge Cup in Maldives next month with another friendly against Qatar club Al Ahli on Monday.
