Malayan HS, 2 others score in Summer caging

MANILA, Philippines - Malayan High School, King’s Montessori School and Escuela de Saphia of Caloocan hurdled their opening day assignments to show the way in the 2014 Summer League Inter-Secondary basketball tournament at the Dapitan Sports Complex in Manila.

Malayan turned back University of Santo Tomas HS, 75-60 as Denniel Aguirre came away with 16 points and David Velvez added 12 markers.

Malayan took the half, 36-27, before cruising to victory in the tournament organized by the Manila Inter-Commercial Athletic Association, presented by Fusion Marketing in partnership with the City of Manila and the Manila Sports Council. Other backers of the event are AUB, PNB, Emperador and media partner Manila Bulletin.

Ronald Mayor led UST with 19 points while Erik Marcelo tossed in 10 markers.

In the second game, King’s Montessori School crushed Ernesto Rondon HS, 84-59, with Ace Villegas topscoring with 17 points and Christian dela Cruz adding 13 markers.

The EDSC side, meanwhile, waylaid St. Vincent Schoool, 73-61, as Alex Desoyo scored 17 points and Gerardo Decayo added 13 markers.

MASCO vice chairman Roberto Norbi, who represented MASCO chairman Philip Cezar, made the ceremonial toss to formally start the tournament.
