Top Phl riders vie in Asian tiff

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines-National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association Motocross (NAMSSA) Team will be sending its top guns, culled from the NAMSSA National Motocross Series, to the 2014 FIM Asian Motocross Championships in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia from April 9 to 14.

Top riders from Thailand, USA, Guam, Japan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Iran, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Australia will battle it out for the combined Rounds 1 and 2 of the FIM Asian tour, which has the Junior MX85, Asian MX Veterans and the premier Asian MX2 as classes.

The Asian tournament is made possible by the efforts of the state of Kuala Terangganu, through the support of His Royal Highness Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.

The world-class track and its beautiful facilities will once again host the annual event, making Kuala Terangganu the motorcross capital of Malaysia.

A flagship project of FIM Asia and ongoing for the past 17 years, the FIM Asian Championships boast of a global television telecast through Eurosports, Star TV, Fox Sports, ESPN Speed, with a combined reach of over 640 million households.

NAMSSA is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2014, with eight legs of the National MX series, which rewards national riders to represent the country in international competitions.

The second round of the 2014 FIM Asian Motocross Tours will visit the Philippines soon, giving chance to national motocross riders to battle it out with the top riders in the Asian region.

“We are inviting local governments to host these thrilling motorcycle events and NAMSSA will make sure they are held using international safety standards in the Philippines as it (NAMSSA) is the duly accredited local governing body of the sport in the country,” said Macky Carapiet, president of NAMSSA.
