The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - More than 7,000 ballers aged 13 to 16 across different cities, provinces, and municipalities in the country gear up for grueling action when the third Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars fires off next month at various venues.

“We are happy with the response of the local communities and teens who participated in the tryouts and basketball clinics,” said Adel Tamano, vice president for public affairs and communications of Coca-Cola Philippines.“ Since we started the program in 2012, we were able to promote active, healthy participation in over 6,000 teens.”

“We look forward to engaging more teens in the coming years as we inspire them to move and be active through their favorite sports. The commitment of Coca-Cola Philippines towards the promotion of well-being is part of its global sustainability framework, which also focuses on programs for women’s economic empowerment and water stewardship,” he added.

“The past few years that we have been partnering with Coca-Cola have been very fruitful. Now that the Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars is on its third year, we are more excited to tap more youth to participate in sports such as basketball,” said PBA commissioner Atty. Chito Salud.

Globally, the company supports over 280 active healthy living programs in 115 countries, helping individuals make informed choices on food consumption, proper hydration, and the benefits of engaging in all forms of physical activity. The Coca-Cola PBA Youngstars, Coca-Cola Football Festival, and the Million Volunteer Run done in partnership with Philippine Red Cross are among those done locally.

“By developing and supporting programs that promote active, healthy living in the communities where we serve, we try to be part in helping provide workable solutions to the current issues of today. This is the commitment that Coca-Cola makes. At the same time, through these partnerships, we also help educate and promote that regular exercise, paired with a sensible, balanced diet helps achieve and maintain energy balance,” Tamano added.

The Metro Manila tryouts will begin April 1, covering Valenzuela, Las Piñas, Taguig, Quezon City, Marikina, Malabon, Muntinlupa, Manila, Parañaque, Pasig, San Juan, and Antipolo.
