CEU, UST keep win run in Dickies caging

MANILA, Philippines - Centro Escolar University and University of Santo Tomas scored contrasting victories to extend their win run to three in the third Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL)-Dickies Women’s Cup at the CEU Lumera Tower gym in Legarda recently.

Mary Ann Doloque fired seven of her 16 points in the last quarter, including a triple, as CEU outlasted reigning UAAP champion La Salle, 62-59, while the Tigresses cruised to a 90-62 victory over Fatima.

Held scoreless in the first quarter, Doloque found her rhythm in the third, scoring five points before joining hands with Janine Pontejos in the fourth to keep the Lady Archers at bay.

Doloque went on to finish with a game-high 16 points while Pontejos came up with a superb all-around performance to help key the team’s win. Pontejos eventually emerged as the Dickies Player of the Game after posting 12 points, three assists and three boards.

In the other game, College of St. Benilde, last year’s runner-up, downed Far Eastern University, 69-63, to improve its record to 2-1 in the event also sponsored by Smart Telecom, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Power House, CW Home Depot, Dickies Underwear and Hapee Toothpaste.

Jonela Nartates starred for UST as she dominated the paint to finish with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Junnelyn Quitomo had a game-high 24 markers for Fatima, which absorbed the third straight defeat.

Ailien Bernadez knocked down three triples to highlight her 16-point performance for the Lady Blazers who controlled the match right from the start.
