San Mateo adds to SMB’s woes, gets share of lead

MANILA, Philippines – The Discovery Channel-San Mateo Spurs trounced the San Miguel Beer Drinkers, 72-55, to gain a share of the lead with the Tigerscribes in the PSA-Smart-PSC Pakitang Gilas Basketball League WilCab Cup Season 3 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Malaya’s Jerome Lagunzad, Philstar.com’s Aldo Avinante and Inquirer assistant sports editor Francis Ochoa carried the fight for the Spurs to win their third straight game and tie the idle Tigerscribes for the top spot.

The Spurs, led by playing coach Joey Villar of The Philippine Star, improved to 4-1 – the same record as the Tigerscribes in this tournament presented by the PSA, Phl Sports Commission, Smart and backed by San Miguel, ACCEL, PRC, Milo Best and Gatorade.

Manila Bulletin’s Christian Jacinto, Tribune’s Julius Manicad and PTV Sports and Spin.ph’s Snow Badua led San Miguel in a losing effort.
