Digos hosts Palawan netfest
MANILA, Philippines - Top junior players and rising stars from Kidapawan City, Kabacan, Pagadian, General Santos City and Sultan Kudarat have confirmed participation in the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala regional age-group tennis circuit presented by Technifibre which starts tomorrow in Digos City, Davao del Sur.
Organizers have waived the registration fee, guaranteeing another huge turnout in the four-day tournament serving as the eighth leg of the year-round, nationwide circuit put up by Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro and sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association headed by Philta president and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez.
“We expect another huge field to compete in the tournament. We believe there’s a lot of talents to be tapped in the countryside that’s why we’re supporting Philta’s nationwide program to promote the sport,†said Castro.
Listup is ongoing. For details, contact Philta referee and tournament director Bobby Mangunay at 0915-4046464 or the Digos City Tennis Club.
Events on tap are the boys’ and girls’ 12-, 14, 16- and 18-and-under divisions and the 10-unisex category.
This marks the second straight year that Digos City will host the event with the organizers hoping to match the record number of entries that took part in last week’s seventh leg in Davao City.
Over 200 players saw action in Davao, including 160 in the four-division boys’ category, making it the most attended leg so far in the circuit, which also serves as the regional tournament program for children staged to address the need for a grassroots tennis centered on values formation.
Other players expected to see action this weekend are from Mlang, Davao City, Tagum City, Mati, Koronadal, Midsayab, Malita and Sto. Tomas along with the upcoming and leading players of Digos City.
