Tanduay mounts ‘Chairman’s Kap’

MANILA, Philippines - Tanduay Distillers, Inc. will mark its 160 years of rich and winning history with the staging of the Tanduay Chairman Kap, an invitational golf tournament to be held in honor of its chairman and chief executive officer Dr. Lucio “El Kapitan” Tan on April 4 at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong.

A full roster of 280 players, including the company’s partners, families and friends, will see action in the 18-hole tournament which marks another milestone for “the man who captained us to success after another, as well as all the people who help steer Tanduay to TDI president Lucio “Bong” Tan Jr.

“El Kapitan,” Dr. Tan’s revered monicker in the industry, is credited for keeping Tanduay a part of the Filipinos’ bayanihan tradition since he took over the helm in 1988.

With “El Kapitan,” Tanduay Rum 5 Years is rated the No. 1 dark rum in the world along with more than 160 international awards for different products of Tanduay.

“At the end of the day, after a hard work that includes helping a friend or neighbor to a completion of a big task, Filipinos love to sit down and share a bottle or two. That is the whole bayanihan picture,” said Bong Tan.

“So, on a very special day on April 4, Tanduay Distillers, Inc. invites partners and friends in the industry to a fun round of golf and, later, a big toast or “tagay” to The Captain. That is the Tanduay brand of bayanihan,” he added.

Tournament chairman Gerard Cantada said registration starts at 5 a.m. for the 6 a.m. morning shotgun with the other shotgun start set at 12 noon.

Dinner and awards rites, including the raffle draw, will be held starting at 6 p.m.

“We are playing golf and having a whole lot of fun. That is how we, in Tanduay Distillers, Inc., celebrate 160 years of hard work and success,” said Bong Tan.
