CamSur bet triumphs in 100K ultra run

ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan , Philippines   â€“ Eugene Postrado put on a tremendous show of staying power as he bested a big field to rule the 100-km Ultra Marathon that kicked off Saturday night and ended at dawn in front of City Hall here yesterday.

Postrado, a Camarines Sur-native now based in Masbate, clocked seven hours, 57 minutes, 28 seconds in the lung-busting race dubbed as the Hundred Islands 100-km International Ultra Marathon that started at the Lucap Point and passed through the towns of Bani, Anda and Bolinao and back.

Postrado, who also ruled last year’s Naga leg of the Milo Marathon, took home P100,000 and a trophy in the event held as part of the province’s fiesta celebrations and backed by Pangasinan Gov. Amado Espino Jr., City Mayor Arthur Celeste along with the local officials of Bani, Anda and Bolinao.

He told The STAR that he started joining races since he was in high school and ran his ultra marathon for the second time.

Armyman Private First Class Alquin Bolivar, from Cagayan de Oro City who also topped the Dagupan leg of the Milo Marathon last year, came in second in 8:31:49 and received P30,000.

Hernan Pineda placed third and took home P20,000 while Joel Bengtay ended up fourth followed by Kenyan Albert Omboga, Dino Mantilez, Robert Arellano, Andrico Mahilum, Thomas Combisen and Juanito Caballero in that order.

Meanwhile, Rene Desuyo timed 4:06:55 to top the men’s 50-km race that started in Bolinao town at dawn yesterday and ended also here.

Desuyo took home P20,000 cash and a trophy. while Armyman Crifrankreadel Indapan placed second and received P10,000 cash and a trophy.
