MANILA, Philippines - Jon Virgil Angeles and Jung Soo Park pooled a 171 to bag the overall championship while Oliver Gan and Antonio Asistio took the overall gross title in the 25th Bill Shaw Classic at Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong last weekend.
Angeles and Park combined for an 87 at the East course then added an 84 at the West to finish with a 171 to gain the top honors in the silver staging of Wack Wack’s signature member-guest team tournament which drew 568 players from 284 teams.
Gan and Asistio made a 64 at the East and wound up with a 75 at the West for a 139 to clinch the highest gross points plum in the four-day event which also served as a fund-raiser for Yolanda survivors.
Wack Wack president Philip Ella Juico said the club put up a seed fund of P500,000 for the Yolanda victims.
Marvin Caparros stole the spotlight when he won the brand-new Hyundai Tucson in the grand raffle draw of the event backed by major sponsors Mercedes-Benz, Pilipinas Shell, Delta Airlines and D&L Industries.
Nicholas Dybuncio and Julius Neri shot a 164 to beat Jack Roxas and Tirso Roxas (151) and Augusto Theodore de Jesus and John Estrada (146) for the Group I crown while Jesus Fernando and Gerry Doria copped the Group II plum with a 164, besting Willy Kho and Monet Garcia (151) and Ray Jacinto and Jerry Lim Bon Hai (150).
Richard Ng and Jasper Ong made a 158 to top Group III with Maria Rosario Dimson and Marites Salivio edging Heinz Gobing and Fritz Dy in the countback for runner-up honors after both teams finished with 145s.
Rafael Ungson and Eulogio Catabran topped Group IV with a 148, edging Peter Tan and Jose Roman Ozaeta (144) and Manuel Ahyong Jr. and Eric Tensuan (142) while Manuel Sta. Cruz and Dennis Gamab ruled the Sponsor’s Division with a 152, beating Shaiful Zainnudin and Eric Heng (142) and Andrea Dybuncio and Allin Lim (141).
