Energysystems up by 12 over Emerald

MANILA, Philippines - Asian Energysystems Corp., drawing big games from Nico Sevilla and Jikjik Abdon, assembled a 149 to seize a big 12-shot lead over Emerald Plus at the start of Division I action in the 26th Corporate Cup at the Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio City yesterday.

Sevilla put in 54 Molave points, equivalent to an even par 69 in stroke play, while pro-bound Abdon added 52 and Ryan Abdon made a 43 for that 149. Jun Fernandez’s 35 didn’t count in the four-to-play, three-to-count format event.

Asian Energysystems, which placed fourth last year, also benefitted from Team Forest Lodge’s struggle as the defending champion groped for a 135 for joint third with Team Baguio in the event co-presented by Ayala Land Premiere and Megafiber.

Joey Ramoso poured in 49 points, Alvin Buenaventura chipped in 47 and Ranie Carlos contributed 41 for Emerald Plus’ 137.  

Team Forest Lodge drew 49 points from Jayson Yu while Thirdy Escano and Shean Bedi added 44 and 42, respectively.

Chester Calpotura took charge for Team Baguio with 47 while Gen. Clyde Cabreros (ret.) and Rudy Lockey chipped in 46 and 42, respectively.

Subic Gas, led by Tony Olives’ 46, stood a point farther back at 134 while AMSI-Calamba Doctors College had a 132 from Norman dela Peña’s 53, Ramon Villareal’s 41 and John Elepano’s 38.

Macom Team I pooled in a 125, Christian Motors had a 115 and Toyota Dagupan wavered with a 91 to trail the leaders in the event, which stakes a brand-new Toyota Wigo for hole-in-one feat on No. 15.

Camp John Hay took command in Division II with a 147 for a one-point lead over Delta Team (146) while Rural Bankers I had a 140 and Friday Business Club I shot a 138.

Meanwhile, the Pugo Adventure, which seized control in the seniors with a 158 for a seven-point lead, guns for its second consecutive crown against Team Nueva Ecija (151) and highly fancied Megafiber (146).
