Altas Perps squad tries to keep NCAA win run

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - University of Perpetual Help System Dalta tries to extend its domination to five years as the NCAA Season 89 comes to a close with the Cheering Competition today at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The event fires off at 12 noon with the Altas Perps Squad tipped to win a fifth straight time and a record eighth championship.

But Perpetual Help is expected to face stiff competition from Arellano University and Emilio Aguinaldo College, two schools that sprang surprises last season as the league’s two probationary squads finished second and third, respectively.

The NCAA will also hand out the general championship trophies with the formal announcement of winners in seniors and juniors division right after the cheerleading competition.

Season host College of Saint Benilde and defending champion San Beda, meanwhile, are in a tight race for the overall championship.

The Red Lions ruled for the last three seasons, while the Blazers hope to regain the overall crown they last won in 2009.

The Season 89 champion teams in 12 sports led by four-time titlist Red Lions in senior’s basketball and the three-time queens Perpetual Help in women’s volleyball will also be feted by the league.

St. Benilde will then formally turn over the hosting chores to Season 90 host Jose Rizal University.
