The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The league-leading Tigerscribes downed the San Mateo Spurs, 67-52, to remain unbeaten in the PSA-PSC Pakitang Gilas Basketball League WilCab Cup Season 3 presented by Smart Monday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Monday night.

Led by Chiqui Reyes, Business Mirror’s Diego de la Paz, JC Trinidad, PBA head statistician Fidel Mangonon, InterAKTV's Rey Joble and Spin.ph’s Dodo Catacutan and Karlo Sacamos, the Tigerscribes squashed the comeback bid of the Spurs in the fourth quarter to keep their perfect slate intact.

It was the Tigerscribes’ third win in as many games in the tournament presented by the Philippine Sportswriters Association. Philippine Sports Commission and Smart and backed by Gatorade, PRC, Milo Best, ACCEL and Magnolia Purewater.

In the other game, defending champion Charlie’s Dymons survived the San Miguel Beer Drinkers, 47-46, to barge into the win column of the cagefest held in honor of the late Manila Bulletin assistant editor Willie Caballes.

The Dymons relied on Ik Aceson, Christian Cortez, Manila Bulletin’s Jonas Terrado, Nat dela Cruz, Abante lensman Kevin dela Cruz, Inquirer Libre contributor Randolph Leongson and Solar Sports Desk writer Jan Ballesteros to weather the stiff challenge of the Beer Drinkers.

The win put the Dymons in a tie for second place with the Spurs at 1-1.

Despite the efforts of Manila Bulletin’s Christian Jacinto, Spin.ph’s Reuben Terrado, Daily Tribune’s Julius Manicad and Ian Lumauag, San Miguel fell to 0-2.
