Cebu, Leyte, Negros bets enter ABAP-Visayas boxing final
MAASIN City Leyte , Philippines – Nine Cebuaños, five Leyteños and four Negrenses made it to the gold medal round of the PLDT-ABAP Visayas Area Boxing Tournament at the Maasin City gym here.
Cebu City’s Marvin Pomar started the ball rolling with a 2-0 win over taller and skillful Rimon Rama of the ALA Gym in the semifinal round of the junior pinweight (46kg) division. He will fight for the gold medal against Romie Evale of Maasin City. Evale defeated Shaquel Miole of Maasin Team B, 3-0.
Giovannie Argate of Leyte Sports Academy defeated Monsour Grullo of Maasin, 3-0, in their junior flyweight (50 kg) bout and will take on Cebu City’s Marco Pomar, who drew a bye.
Kit Ceron Garces of Cebu City defeated Evan Maquilling of Southern Leyte, 3-0, to reach the finals against Jeffrey Orello of Maasin, who survived a standing eight count to eliminate Maasin Team B’s Leo Domingo Napuli.
Maasin’s Marlon Samblaceno took a clinical 3-0 win over Jerick Madrazo of Southern Leyte and marched to the junior light bantamweight (52 kg) final against Bago City’s Mario Jaga Jr. who ousted Jumar Aquino of Maasin.
ALA Gym’s Jeffrey Estella made short work of Julius Da Carpio of Maasin (TKO,1:12, first round) in the junior bantamweight (54kg) semis, and will next fight Aljun Batistil of Maasin, who won over Justin Balanos, 2-1.
